Badminton Club Rules and Regulations

General Membership
  • Club membership fees are determined by the Club President. 

  • All members must have their registration information submitted to play.

  • All members who are students must register with their student email and prove their student status.

  • All members who are not students are community members and must pay the Club membership fee of $10 per semester.

  • Members may NOT invite guests to play due to stricter regulations during the pandemic. 

  • All members and gusts must submit a signed waiver before playing.

Dates and Times
  • All club activity is to take place during scheduled dates and times.

  • Any planned cancellations (ie. holidays, school activity, etc.) are published on our calendar and are to be respected.

  • Any unplanned cancellations (ie. weather, etc.) will be sent out via e-mail and posted to our Facebook Group. Unplanned cancellations will result in the reservations for that day being canceled as well. 

  • Under no circumstances should any member proceed to play badminton under the guise of the Club during any cancelled or unscheduled date and/or time at the venue.

Equipment
  • Members are encouraged to bring their own badminton equipment for play (ie. badminton racquets, grip, etc.)

  • The Club has a limited amount of badminton racquets available if needed, but it is not a permanent or guaranteed provision.

  • Plastic shuttlecocks are provided by the Club.

  • Members may also use their own shuttlecocks if they wish.

  • Feather shuttlecocks are not always provided by the Club.

  • Posts and nets are provided by the Club.

Attire
  • Participating members should dress in attire appropriate for playing badminton.

  • Shirts must be worn.

  • Only non-marking, soled badminton shoes or other athletic court shoes are permitted on the court.

  • Outdoor shoes should be removed prior to walking on the courts.

  • Shoes, badminton goggles, etc are not provided by the Club.

Etiquette and Sportsmanship
  • Respect between members is to be maintained at all times.

  • Abusive, violent, and harassing behavior (physical, verbal, visual, etc.) will not be tolerated at any time.

  • Club executives reserve the right to eject or banish members who exhibit inappropriate behavior.

Play
  • Players are encouraged to use the 21-point rally system, or may use the traditional scoring system of 15 points if agreed upon.

  • Single sets are encouraged to allow participation from all members.

  • Multi-set matches are permitted if attendance is low and court availability permits.

  • On busy evenings, doubles matches are preferred.

  • Single matches are encouraged if attendance permits.

  • No referees or line judges are available - an honor system applies.

  • Walk-on courts are challenge courts, with a maximum number of sets of 3 for the champions.

  • Reservation courts must be booked in advance using the online reservation system. Players are encouraged to use the courts if they are empty, but must yield immediately (not finishing your game) when the reservation-holders arrive.

  • Reservation holders must respect the following reservation holders by leaving their court on time. 

  • Beginner courts are for new players and their mentors. Players are encouraged to use the courts if they are empty, but must yield immediately (not finishing your game) when new players need the court.

Setup and Takedown
  • Upon arrival, members should sign in.

  • At the end of the evening, members are encouraged to help with cleanup and the take down nets and posts.

  • All shuttlecocks in decent condition should be returned to the equipment box.

  • Gymnasium should be checked to ensure no equipment is left out or left behind.
